While I agree it would be a nice feature, I also agree that it's nice to have a reason to move slightly away from the portal or spawn point whenever you go to a town. Since storage does work anywhere in town, and its use is not limited to a certain spot like other NPC functionaries, it doesn't really take that much effort to go to the bank, open it up, then unload it while you're standing at the merchant.
Nonetheless, it seems like a good idea.

I wish when you go into a dungeon you could just type /boss to go to the final boss.
I wish when you were in a mission you could type /win for masters (O wait no, we have Paragons for that)
...
It's not necessary, and really, really lazy. A resounding /notsigned from me.
Vasburg Armory's storage just needs to be moved out of D'Alessio Seaboard and actually back into Vasburg Armory, since the current place actually is stupidly out of the way, but that's one of the only towns which causes much annoyance.

Which is more crippling to a gaming experience?
Exhibit A: Spending a needless minute to run to storage when you could just press some hotkey to open it up
Exhibit B: Seeing a bunch of people just standing there.

we gw players right now only have to walk a tiny fraction of WoW player, the chests and the time it takes to run there (very short btw) makes it more realistic, and get a guild hall, thats where I always go, at least in the Isle of Meditation everything is relativly close together

Don't bring WoW into this, because that is completely irrelevant.
How is it "more realistic"? And, since when has Guild Wars been realistic? Yes, in real life, whenever I get hexed, I just have someone throw a Holy Veil on me and then remove it and the hex is gone!!!
Maybe some of us don't want to go thru 2+ loading screens just to get to storage?

Why don't we add hotkeys for /.. commands for the merchant, traders, and mission starters in NF also? :O
C'mon people, there is a limit to how lazy we can be

Reasons:
- seems more an issue of xunlai placement in towns (i.e. more convenient for them to be placed near town spawn points
- in most guild halls, the xunlai is near spawn point (if it isn't, most guilds are in an alliance with gh's that are closer to spawn point)
- or you can warp to a town that you know has an easier access to xunlai
Just as no one is forcing others to use a hot-key and players can still walk if they choose (as was stated), players can also still warp to a gh and do the same thing. Also less lag then when entering towns.
Those are just some of my thoughts, I look forward to others.

Tracking down storage is annoying if you spawn well away from it, but there's a lot of other, more important things they could work on than this.

And the immeasurable amount of time wasted wandering around the wilderness and towns is one of the innumerable reasons that WoW is complete and utter crap for anti-social nerds with nothing but time on their hands. But kudos on bringing up a completely irrelevant point about a completely different game.

Save your bunnies (rather then just eat all 300 of them at once) for times like this if it bothers you that much.

Other examples of poorly placed storage chests:
Granite Citadel
Original Lions Arch Storage (good for out of way trading, bad for needing money for other NPC use)
Beacon's Perch
Port Sledge (ok, I admit that the entire town is useless)
Gunnar's Hold
Henge of Denravi
I have yet to find the chest in the first town in Realm of Torment (town name escapes me right now).
It isn't so much being lazy, but some instances where this would improve things a lot are:
People wanting to see money for Droks Run in Beacons Perch, to get to storage you go up a hill, run around in a circle to go across a bridge, then come back to runner who is pretty much always on ground.
Granite Citadel go up stairs to second level to where you can no longer even see armor guy.

Port Sledge? That town is like 12 meters wide.
The others I agree with.
Granted, HoD just has LOADS of problems with it that make is an unpopular and out of the way city.

Which would be simpler for a GW designer moving 10 or so storages around only to have more people complain about other ones or add a simple hotkey or /storage function.
The answer....and more to come.............
......ok im back! The answer is adding the function into the game. And if its an issue of people just being too lazy then I guess I have to illustrate the point again...this is a game, if your job doesnt revolve around playing this game then any time spent playing it is you being lazy.
So obviously throwing those two worthless reasons why this function shouldnt be added, what are the good points of having it incorporated:
1. Less cluster control around the storage, seriously it like a cult near that box where everyone is worshiping it. (Oh great cube reveal your wisdom to me)
2. Easy access, of course.
3. Helps new people find storage easier.
4. Trade boost, enables people to sell and buy to other players or NPCs much faster and more productively.
5. Did I mention its an awesome idea?

I'll sign as long as it stays out being possible to access the storage in an explorable area. Don't want everyone to abuse that if it came to pass.

/signed again since my last post got deleted due to me not wanting to repeat what everyone else had said before...
Sounds practical, and would get rid of all the really annoying unnecessary travel to storage boxes. If we added up all the seconds it took us to go to storage every time we enter an outpost we would have a LOT of wasted time on our hands...
